Elite Cuber from Ozark East Elementary Ranked Third in State
An Ozark East Elementary School student has solved a Rubik’s Cube in record time. As part of the team that participated in the Nixa Rubik’s Rumble, Hannah Maskrod solved a 3x3 Rubik’s Cube in one minute, 14 seconds during the solo portion of the competition. Maskrod is ranked third in Missouri among elementary school students at You CAN Do the Rubik’s Cube competitions during the 2017/18 school year.
“I am very proud of Hannah and this accomplishment. This is a true testament to her dedication,” teacher Stefanie McKoy said. “Hannah is a thoughtful young lady who sets her mind to a task and will persist until she has mastered it. She practiced solving the cube in the classroom and at home. She maintained a positive attitude when the task became difficult and she coached her classmates as well. I may be proud of her accomplishment but I am even more impressed by the strength of her character. She has a bright future ahead of her!”
Maskrod’s speed has earned her “Elite Cuber” status and a top spot in the You CAN Do the Rubik’s Cube Speed League. During the timed competition, teams of eight students work collectively to solve 25 Rubik's Cubes in the fastest time. Members of teams who solve the cube in under two minutes could also compete in solo events to solve one cube in the fastest time.
You CAN Do the Rubik's Cube is an educational outreach program that provides resources and support to schools and youth organizations to teach STEM/STEAM standards and 21st century skills by using the Rubik's Cube. Since the program’s launch in 2008, more than 25,000 teachers and millions of students have benefitted from You CAN Do the Rubik’s Cube enrichment activities.
The Speed League is the national leaderboard of the fastest elementary, middle and high school teams and solo competitors in the U.S. who have solved the Rubik’s Cube during You CAN Do the Rubik’s Cube competitions.
