Tabuya to Lead West as Principal for 2023-24 School Year
The Ozark Board of Education, at its Jan. 19 meeting, voted to hire Rachel Tabuya as the West Elementary principal for the 2023-24 school year.
Tabuya joined Ozark School District in 2014 and taught second, third and fifth grade before becoming assistant principal of West Elementary in 2019, where she is currently. She also served as principal of Ozark Virtual School for the 2021-22 school year.
“It is a privilege to continue my administrative journey alongside the phenomenal staff of West Elementary as we connect, learn, grow and lead to provide a high quality education for each student’s future readiness,” she said. “We will build upon our culture of excellence, strengthen our sense of community, and focus on preparing students to use their strengths for success. West students are bold, kind and awesome. Their growth is why we celebrate! I am thankful for the opportunity to serve the students, staff and families of West Elementary as their principal.”
Tabuya earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 2014 and her Master of Science degree in Educational Administration in 2017 from Missouri State University. She is currently working on her doctorate for Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction at Evangel University.
Executive Director of Elementary Learning Dr. Kent Sappington said he knows West in good hands with Tabuya taking the helm.
“I am excited that Rachel Tabuya has landed the head principal role at West,” he said. “After having served as assistant principal for the last few years she knows and loves the staff and students at West. This will be a seamless transition for West, maintaining a steady and consistent environment, which is always good for kids.”
Tabuya will replace Dr. Gina McBain, who is retiring after 23 years in the Ozark School District.
“I am sad to see Dr. McBain retire,” Sappington said. “She has been an integral member of our elementary administration team for many years and has brought a sense of order and stability to West Elementary for the last three years.”
Tabuya will step into her new role July 1, 2023.
