Celebrating Veterans

Students in Ozark School District celebrated Veterans Day in many different ways, including writing and decorating letters for area veterans, reading books about poppies and heroes, learning about the “Star Spangled Banner” and much more. One classroom even set a table.

East Elementary third-graders read “America’s White Table” by Margot Raven, and then set a White Table in honor of all of the veterans who have served. According to the book’s description, “the White Table is set in many mess halls as a symbol for and remembrance to service members fallen, missing, or held captive in the line of duty. Solitary and solemn, it is the table where no one will ever sit.”

Students then set their own White Table by drawing a picture and listing what each item represents.
