Board, Politicians Honor JROTC National Championship Teams
Aug. 26 was a night of celebration as Ozark High School’s four JROTC teams were honored at the Board of Education meeting for receiving four national championships last school year.
JROTC Raider instructor MAJ. Danny Cazier, Rifle instructor 1SG William Crawford and Drill Team instructor CW3 Jason Allen all bragged about their teams and the hard work they put in to achieve this historic feat.
State Rep. Jered Taylor, District 139, presented each student with a framed proclamation and commended them for their achievements.
“The mission (of JROTC) is to motivate young people to be better citizens,” Taylor said. “How amazing is that, at a time like right now, to instill those leadership skills and those values in our students to make sure that they are good citizens of the United States — that they grow up loving their country and wanting to serve their country. I just want to say thank you.”
Erin Engelmeyer with Sen. Josh Hawley’s office, read a statement from Hawley and presented students with a certificate.
“Through hard work, dedication and commitment to your fellow teammates, each of you have made a lasting contribution to the tradition of excellence,” Hawley said in the statement. “I join your families, the school and the entire Ozark community in celebrating this significant achievement.”
State Rep. Tricia Derges, 140th District, said she was encouraged by the JROTC teams.
“If we have this kind of youth coming up to take care of our country, we are in good shape,” she said.
Sen. Eric Burlison could not attend, but in a statement said, “I am proud of your hard and meticulous work and how you represent the strong work ethic of southwest Missouri.”
The OHS JROTC now holds the national championship title in the following categories:
