Ozark’s Dawson Named Executive Director of Special Services; Eakins to Retire

The Ozark Board of Education, at its March 13 meeting, voted to promote Dr. Elizabeth Dawson as executive director of special services for the 2026-27 school year.
Dawson has been serving as the principal of Tiger Paw Early Childhood Center since 2021. She started her educational career in 2006 as a speech-language pathologist before becoming the special education coordinator in the Sparta School District in 2010. She joined the Ozark School District in 2015, serving as a speech-language pathologist, special education process coordinator, and then assistant principal of Tiger Paw before transitioning to the role of principal.
“I’m honored to serve the Ozark School District in this role,” Dawson said. “I look forward to working with staff and families across the district to ensure every student receiving special services has the support and opportunities they need to succeed.”
Dawson obtained her undergraduate degree in Communications Sciences and Disorders in 2004 and her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 2006, both from Missouri State University. She then earned her Specialist in Educational Administration and her doctorate in Educational Leadership, both from William Woods University.
Superintendent Dr. Lori Wilson said Dawson’s background and experience make her well suited to lead the district's special services department.
“During her five years as principal at Tiger Paw Early Childhood Center, Dr. Dawson has demonstrated strong leadership in guiding special services while also building meaningful relationships with students, families and staff,” Wilson said. “Her experience and dedication to students will help advance the district’s vision and strategic plan. We are excited to have her step into this role and continue serving Ozark families.”
As Executive Director of Special Services, Dawson will oversee special education services PK-12, process coordinators and therapists across the district.
Dawson will replace longtime Tiger Dr. Laura Eakins, who is retiring at the end of this school year after more than 25 years in education. She has served Ozark as director of interventions, as well as assistant principal and principal of Tiger Paw Early Childhood Center. Prior to Ozark, she worked at Branson, Strafford and Nixa school districts.
“Dr. Laura Eakins has led our special services department caring deeply for students first while modernizing systems, streamlining services and expanding transition opportunities for our graduates," Wilson said. "Under her leadership, the department achieved 100 percent compliance with DESE requirements, reflecting her commitment to both high-quality services and strong systems. Her impact on our students and staff will be lasting and greatly missed.”
Dawson will step into her new role July 1, 2026.
