Creative Collaboration: OHS, East Art Students Work Together
East fourth graders in Kate Strohm’s class were all excited Tuesday morning when the high school students walked in holding 3-D sculptures — sculptures the high schoolers in Sculpture 2 class designed from 2-D pictures the fourth graders created months ago.
Ana Brown, Ozark East Art Teacher, said the assignment prompted fourth graders to create an original character with details that showed personality.
Adrian Johnson, Pottery, Sculpture and Art Survey Teacher at OHS, said her students then brought the drawings to life. She said she really enjoys collaborating with the elementary students, and the high school students enjoy it as well.
“Sometimes when they are done with the sculpture, they don’t know what to do with them,” she said. “I love doing this because it has a purpose, and it teaches them real-life skills. And, they have a client and they have to please other people.”
When Johnson asked the fourth graders if they would “hire” the OHS students to do a project like this in the future, the students emphatically said “Yes!”
