From Classrooms to Careers: OJH Students Explore Future Paths at Career Day
Ozark Junior High was buzzing with excitement on May 21 as students traded their usual class schedule for something a little different: Career Day. Bringing in roughly 50 local businesses and professionals, the event brought the real world to classrooms sharing what it’s like to work in everything from firefighting to pharmacy, restaurants, and more.
“I liked just learning about everybody's different careers and knowing that I have a bunch of options open,” said eighth-grader Brynlee Mast. “I've always wanted to go into the medical field, but after seeing the pharmacist, he talked to me about all the different careers I could do, and now I think I’m going to look into becoming a pediatric surgeon.”
OJH teacher and Athletic Director Sarah Brockmeier, who organized the event, said the goal was to help students see how what they are learning now could help shape their future.
“When students understand how what they're learning applies to real-world jobs,” she said, “they’re more motivated to perform academically and make informed choices about high school courses, extracurriculars, and postsecondary plans.”
We’re incredibly grateful to be part of a community that consistently shows up to support our students and their futures. Thank you to all the businesses and professionals who helped make Career Day a success!
