East Students Compete in Mathleague
We love seeing our parents get involved in our elementary schools, especially when that parent is also a teacher at the high school! Dr. Albert Bryant, OHS math teacher, recently administered a Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics Mathleague contest for four East Elementary students. Congratulations to fourth graders Samson Bryant, Duke Kirkman, Henry Witt and Emy Yerby for stepping out of their comfort zone and taking the test — literally!
“I’m so proud of our four students who represented East Elementary at the math competition,” Principal Karen Capen said. “A huge thank you to Dr. Bryant for sharing his passion for math and dedicating his own time to prepare and support the students. Experiences like this are so valuable, helping students grow in confidence and problem-solving skills!”
There were a total of 374 competitors from 23 different schools that competed. While the East team didn’t qualify for the next level, students did enjoy it and are already crossing their fingers that they can do it again!
“It was a lot of fun and they had a good time,” Bryant said. “I think it’s very important to inspire the love of learning and the love of math at a young age.”
Also, congratulations to Duke who scored in the top 20th percentile of the individual cumulative score, which allows him to compete in the regional event.
