North Elementary Music Teacher

My name is Angie Harmon, and I am the music teacher at North Elementary. Our students at North elementary are great singers, and they always do a fantastic job at their music programs! However, we learn so much more during the school year in music class than simply memorizing songs for performances. The children learn many new vocabulary terms in music. They also learn how to count rhythms and how to read music. In K-5 music, we learn how to read solfege: do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti, do. In 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade music, we learn the real note names on the staff: A, B, C, D, E, F, G. Fourth and fifth graders now have the privilege of learning how to play the ukulele! Fifth graders also learn how to play the recorder using a very fun method called "Recorder Karate." When fifth graders leave North Elementary to go onto Ozark Middle School, they are prepared to sing in a choir or play in a band.
We have been having a lot of fun in music so far this year at North! Be sure to "like" the Ozark North Related Arts Facebook page so you can stay informed of what is happening in the music room!
